ACACIA WOOD
Acacia wood is a popular choice for Vietnam plywood manufacturing due to its availability and competitive price. It is mainly grown and used in the northern and middle regions of Vietnam. Acacia is a type of hardwood but it lighter than Eucalyptus and Rubber species, making it a cost-effective solution, and plentiful in supply.
However, using acacia has some drawbacks such as the presence of knots, as well as the discoloration of the wood, which renders it unsuitable for products requiring a perfect surface finish and attractive appearance.
EUCALYPTUS WOOD
Eucalyptus is another type of Vietnam hardwood that is widely available in Northern and Middle Vietnam, and it is renowned for its light coloring and lack of knots, making it ideal for higher quality standards in comparison to Acacia.
Though, there are not many suppliers for Eucalyptus veneers, so it may be difficult to find uncommon specification options such as veneers’ thickness or size. Furthermore, Eucalyptus is generally more expensive than Acacia.
RUBBER WOOD
Rubber is a commonly-used material in Southern Vietnam, with its highest density amongst all, Rubber is preferred for the production of high-strength products like formwork plywood and container flooring plywood. Besides that, due to its bright color and lack of knots, Rubber wood veneers are also a great choice for plywood cores’ surfaces which are applied for cabinet production.
Nonetheless, due to its density, plywood made from rubber are heavy and expensive to transport. Additionally, rubber wood contains sugar which makes it easy to be damaged by termites. Furthermore, as Rubber is not generally grown for being wood materials, that make it not readily available and more costly than other species.
PINE AND STYRAX WOOD
Pine and Styrax wood are more popular found in the Northern provinces of Vietnam such as Thai Nguyen, Bac Kan, Yen Bai, and Lang Son. They are a type of softwood and provide less strength and screw adhesion, making them more likely use for some Vietnam plywood products such as packing plywood.
