Melamine Plywood (TFL) difference variants

At the Kim Gia Vietnam Plywood Mill, we specialize in the production and supply of three distinct types of Melamine Plywood (TFL).

  • Melamine Coated Plywood Core
  • Melamine coated MDF cross-band Plywood Core
  • Pre-laminate Melamine coated Plywood Core

Melamine Coated Plywood core

Why is it challenging to produce Melamine plywood?

The construction of plywood involves joining multiple layers of rotary veneers together, resulting in a concentration of veneer core that is not comparable to MDF. Moreover, the surface of plywood is not as flat and smooth as MDF. Therefore, that is a relatively high rate of defects, particularly surface burns, that occur during the process, especially when working with dark solid colors.

Besides that, due to the high quality and surface processing requirements of the Melamine veneer core platform. As a result, Melamine plywood tends to be more expensive than other options.

MDF Cross-band Veneer Core or Sandwich core

A hybrid structure known as a plywood core is made up of a combination of veneer and MDF materials. It involves using a veneer core with thin fiber core cross-bands located on the face and back of platform.

This particular construction combines the lightweight characteristics of a plywood core with the smooth surface of MDF, providing the best of both worlds. Additionally, plywood demonstrates excellent screw-holding ability, durability and strength, as well as having high water resistance capabilities. While MDF provide minimizes surface burning and maintains a smooth platform without requiring a high-quality core like traditional Melamine direct laminate to veneer core.

On the other hand, MDF Cross-Band is available at a much lower price. However, it still possesses the disadvantages of MDF, such as low durability against moisture and wet conditions, and susceptibility to surface damage.

Pre-laminate Melamine Plywood

These types of papers are created by pre-laminating melamine paper onto engineered veneer.

The advantages of this products’ type that significantly reduces surface defects such as burn. Additionally, the quality of surface and core processing does not require as high of standards as traditional melamine papers, allowing for production using basic facilities without the need for high machinery investments. As a result, the price of these papers is cheaper compared to traditional melamine plywood products.

When the disadvantage of pre-laminate Melamine Plywood that is the product’s surface, where the texture of underneath Engineer Veneer is visible on the surface after finishing. This issue may annoy the appearance of the product for certain solid colors and textures like matte or glossy surface texture requirements.  This type of Pre-laminate Melamine Plywood would be strongly suggest for the Melamine with wood colors and wood grain textures.
