As the Previously information, there was news that the EUDR might be postponed — but it is no longer the latest news, The EUDR updated will take full effect for all goods arriving at EU ports after December 30, 2025. Without it, the shipments may not be able to get through European customs.
So what do Vietnam Plywood Manufacturers need to do to adapt to EUDR regulation?
What does EUDR require?
The main goal of EUDR is to ensure that wood and other forest-based materials do not come from deforested or damaged land and are legally harvested.
To export to the EU, every shipment must include:
- Full supply chain documents (from forest to factory to final buyer)
- Exact geocoordinates of the forest where the wood comes from
- Correct botanical names of the species used
Without these details, EU customs will not release the goods — so having accurate and complete information is essential.
What Exporters and Suppliers Need to Prepare
- Collect Supply Chain Documents
- Gather the harvest license and invoice for the round wood sold to the veneer producer.
- These documents must show that the wood came from the licensed forest.
- Then prepare documents from the veneer producer to the plywood producer, and from the plywood producer to the buyer.
- Check Quantities
- Make sure all volumes and quantities in the documents match correctly.
- Example: if the forest owner sells 100 m³, the next stages must not exceed that amount. This helps avoid mistakes and questions from auditors.
- Provide Tax Documents
- Tax-related documents are also useful for confirming transparency and legal operations.
- Identify the Exact Wood Species
- Use the exact botanical name of the wood, such as Eucalyptus acmenoides or Eucalyptus accedens.
- Avoid general names like “Eucalyptus spp.” since auditors will verify the species scientifically.
- Share Geocoordinates (Forest Location Data)
- For forests smaller than 4 hectares, only one GPS point is needed.
- For larger forests, please provide the polygon (boundary) data — this can be done easily using a smartphone app like Google Maps.
- The forest owner can add this data to the harvesting permit or send it directly to the veneer or plywood producer.
- Once recorded, this only needs to be updated when the forest changes ownership or area — not every shipment.
Why 2020 Matters with EUDR?
The EU will check satellite images to confirm that the forest has not been damaged or deforested since 2020.
- If the forest was already a plantation or planted forest in 2020, it’s fine.
- If the forest was natural in 2020 but later converted into a plantation, that wood cannot be used for EU products.
This ensures sustainable forest management and protects our shared environment.
